Mark Kamau is an Afro-centric human centered designer, with a focus on designing for emerging markets. He has over 15 years multi-disciplinary, multi-industry design experience. These include, health, financial inclusion, education, human rights, governance, community centered design, physical space design, product UX design among others.
He has experience working both in Europe and Africa. He has worked on projects across the African continent for local and international organizations like The World Bank, Google, Microsoft, Mastercard, Ideo, The UN and the local startup community under the iHub. When not designing, he often travels to speak about design from an African context with an aim to bring an African perspective to the global solutions discourse. He also speaks about Afrofuturism & collaborative policy development.
He uses a human centered design approach to help identify latent needs and hidden opportunities, bringing new thinking to complex human challenges. This often leads to innovative solutions for products and human services. Mark believes in designing WITH and not FOR people. He accomplishes this by centering human needs, contexts and aspirations. He enjoys nature, good food and good people. He is currently the Director of User Experience Design at BRCK.
